The gas water heater vents through a chimney that shares space with a cold air return. With 2 vents in the space, the clicking noise can be quite loud near the vents. I’ve had the installer return and he replaced my fast-recovery water heater for one with much lower BTU’s, thinking that the chimney wouldn’t get as hot so less expansion/contraction but I still get the noise (of course not while the water heater was running while the plumber was there). The plumber told me that was the only thing he could do. Is this true?
I hear a sporadic clicking noise in the chimney area when my gas water heater runs. Can it be fixed?
